Summary

MDEQ Surface Mining enforcement of regulations and permits. These should be used with the mine point file which contains more information about permitted mines.

Description

These are polygon boundaries of all pre-permitted and permitted mines, both current and former in Mississippi that have been mapped. Within the last 10 years, the source is GPS onsite. Before that, they were mapped on topographic quadrangles.

Permits before 2009 have a low positional accuracy. Questions about the actual boundaries can be found in the permit file at MDEQ. This file is a helpful guide to the public, but we do not guarentee the accuracy of the positions and table data. Since it is not updated daily, some information may be out of date.
